Every year, EFSA implements a part of its scientific work in cooperation with external parties. Such work is outsourced via calls for grant or tender. EFSA’s Strategy 2027 foresees a strengthened role for partnerships with Competent Organisations in the Member States (MS), Norway and Iceland, especially with regards to:
- The delivery of scientific advice that EFSA is required to provide to EU risk managers and policy makers
- Preparedness for future risk assessment challenges and regulatory needs.
This strategic ambition is empowered by the recent amendment of EFSA’s Founding Regulation, which encourages stronger involvement of MS competent organisations in the work of EFSA and places emphasis on ensuring the sustainability of the EU risk assessment system.
